HELEN Wood has collapsed on Mount Kilimanjaro after being struck down with a terrifying bout of altitude sickness during charity trek.
The former Celebrity Big Brother star was climbing the highest peak in Africa to raise money for good causes when disaster struck.
Helen was taking part in a charity climb for the Alzheimer's Society in honour of her mum Mary, who suffers from dementia.
She spent a week battling gruelling conditions before collapsing just short of the summit.
Helen had to be treated by medics and stretchered down the mountain, ending her bid to reach the top.
She told the Daily Star that she was "delirious" by the time she was treated by doctors.
Helen said: "It was mortifying, soul-destroying. I'd climbed for five days, 12 hours a day, then the altitude just got the better of me.
"If you pass out, they just send you back...
"I was delirious, it makes you feel like a horrible drunk... They dragged me down on the stretcher 700 metres."
