Tom Hiddleston mocked for rambling Golden Globes acceptance speech that managed to plug his self-serving humanitarian mission to South Sudan – AND The Night Manager
The British actor was branded 'boring' after a lengthy monologue about his charity trip

TOM Hiddleston may have had viewers riveted during The Night Manager series but they completely lost interest in his super-serious Golden Globe acceptance speech.
The Brit star scooped the Best Actor gong for the BBC TV drama at last night's star-studded ceremony - yet those watching at home took a dig at his "boring" lengthy story about a visit to South Sudan.
They even went as far as to say his monotone monologue gave a hint at why Tom's ex Taylor Swift, who The Sun exclusively revealed were dating last year, ended their relationship.
After picking up his trophy Tom told the audience in LA: "A quick story, I know it's been a long night.
"I recently went to South Sudan, which is the youngest country in the world - in east Africa, with the United Nations Children's Fund. I do a little bit of work with them, try to spread the word as best I can. "It's a terrible situation happening for children.
"The Night Manager is about arms dealing and there are far too many arms going in to South Sudan.'"
After delving into the details of his trip, Tom, 35, switched tack and tried to bring the attention back to the hit TV drama.
Film addicts took to Twitter to poke fun at Tom and one sarcastically wrote: "Good on Tom Hiddleston for telling that long, boring, completely unrelated to his award story about how he's a good person."
Another quipped: "The award for the most boring speech goes to...Tom Hiddleston," while one wrote: "Tom Hiddleston does not know how to tell a short, concise story. He's so boring & longwinded I nearly fell asleep."
Another posted: "Well that was a boring story. #tomhiddleston#GoldenGlobes."
A Golden Globe fan got rather catty and posted: "That was a long story Tom Hiddleston told to pay himself a compliment."
One wrote: "No wonder Taylor Swift ended things," with a crying face Emoji, while another went along the same lines and commented: "The Taylor Swift/Tom Hiddleston thing makes so much more sense after hearing his Golden Globes acceptance speech."
It seems even the hoards of celebrities gathered at the event were left sleepy by his speech.
One Twitter fan screen-grabbed an image of Christian Slater closing his eyes and resting his head on his chin as he struggled to keep awake while listening to Tom.
Another revealed: "I fell asleep during the golden globes because of Tom Hiddleston's incredibly awful speech."
In his long monologue, Tom forged a link between the show and the work of charities in the war-ravaged country.
He said: "There's a curfew at 6pm every night because humanitarian aid workers have to be inside so that it's safe - by 6. One night we were having a bite to eat at the canteen where we were staying. And a group of young men and women tottered over to the table and were all having what they call a 'dirty beer' in humanitarian language.
"They were a group of Médecins Sans Frontières doctors and nurses and they wanted to say hello because during the shelling the previous month they had binge watched the Night Manager."
Tom added: "The idea that I could provide - or that we could provide some relief and entertainment for the people that work for UNICEF and Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Food Programme who are fixing the world in the places where it is broken made me immensely proud. So I dedicate this to those out there who are doing their best."
Meanwhile British talent swept the board, with Hugh Lawrie and Claire Foy also winning last night.
