BBC boss gaffe sees Sherlock take on NAZIS in final episode of series

Sherlock Holmes has a Nazi themed episode to round off the series

SHERLOCK Holmes has taken on all manner of master criminals but never Nazis - until now.

The first screening of the final episode of this series of the drama took a dark turn when the BBC's controller of drama unwittingly mixed up the name of the episode with the Nazi's name for their evil plan to murder millions of Jews in World War 2.

Piers Wenger accidentally introduced a private screening of the third and final episode, The Final Problem as The Final Solution.

The gaffe forced show creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss to save him with their wit at the live screening.

"It's not really a good thing," Moffat said as he joined the stage.

"Thanks for that but not for comparing us to the Nazis."

Then Mark, who also plays Mycroft Holmes in the BBC drama, referenced the far right extremist movement, quipping: "It's quite trendy now."

They then made a joke about any spoilers for the episode leaking, adding: "That would be the final solution."

Sadly for fans, all spoilers for the thrilling final episode have been kept under lock and key.

On Sunday viewers got to meet Sherlock's secret sister - and were swept up in a huge wave of deja-vu in the process.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that the actress arriving on-screen as the detective's evil sister had played TWO more roles in the series.

Last night, they were left gobsmacked when the second episode rounded off with secret sibling Euros pointing a gun at Doctor Watson before pulling the trigger.

It has long been thought Sherlock had a mystery brother, but Euros (Sian Brooke) put paid to that idea in her dramatic entrance just before the BBC programme finished.

While eagle-eyed fans were left shocked at the plotline, they also spotted Sian had played both Watson's therapist and the woman on the bus he nearly had an affair with in previous scenes.

Yet she was going in a disguise the whole time.

Talking of Sian's role, series co-creator Mark Gatiss said: "Obviously this was a huge thing to cast Sian, as Euros, this unknown sibling, and what we asked…the casting director to do, was essentially find someone that she thought should already be a big star. Who’s never quite got the break.

"And we saw a few people but Sian was just wonderful and absolutely knocked it out of the park."

He added "It started as a joke years ago there was going to be a line in the first season where we were sketching in the Holmes family.

"But we thought we won't do too much and thank God we didn't because it has given us this place to go."

The name of the shady character derives from Greek heritage, with the name said to bring both bad luck - and rain.

It remains to be seen whether Watson has been seriously injured, or if Euros will be held to account for her actions.

Talking of Sian's latest role, co-creator Steven Moffat added: “It is an absolutely epic performance. She is incredibly adept. Wait until you see her next week. She should win some awards after her performance."

Meanwhile Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbach) also took a huge chunk of the spotlight on yesterday's show.

It was revealed he was back on drugs after having taken cocaine and morphine previously to escape "the dull routine of existence".

Viewers of the BBC One show watched in shock however as the iconic detective smashed up his home while high.

Waving a hand gun, he started to shoot as images of evil Culverton Smith popped up around the room.

One fan tweeted: “If you ever needed it, this episode is an advert to say no to drugs.”
