Oscars in major gaffe after official site names Amy Adams INSTEAD of Ruth Negga for Best Actress

THE nominees for this year's Academy Awards were announced this morning but fans were left shocked when Amy Adams was listed INSTEAD of Ruth Negga in the Best Actress category on the Oscars mobile site.
Many movie buffs were shocked when Amy was snubbed despite starring in a number of major films last year, including sci-fi flick Arrival, which is up for Best Film.
However, an image of the error quickly surfaced online which said that Amy was nominated for Arrival instead of Ruth for her turn in Loving.
The other actresses listed include Emma Stone for La La Land, Meryl Streep for Florence Foster Jenkins, Isabelle Hopper for Elle and Natalie Portman for Jackie.
The wrong list was also circulated to American media with many US outlets wrongly reporting that Amy had received a nomination.
Movie buffs took to Twitter to share the image with many questioning how the error could be made when members of the Academy vote for who should be nominated.
One wrote: "How can this mistake happen? It took 10 minutes to fix the site #oscars."
Another confused fan wrote: "So were Amy Adams & Ruth Negga nominated or not?"
A third said: "#ThatMomentWhen the Official @Oscars_Live website puts Amy Adams as a nominee when they meant to put Ruth Negga..."
In terms of nominations, the much-talked about La La Land led the way with an impressive FOURTEEN nods, including Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
Dev Patel and Andrew Garfield lead the nominations for the Brit representation on the noms list – with the pair going head to head for their films Lion and Hacksaw Ridge in several categories.
While Amy Adams was snubbed for Best Actress for her role in Arrival, the sci-fi flick has still managed to make it to the shortlist for Best Film as well as a slew of other awards.
Meanwhile, the Academy will no doubt be hoping to put last year's #OscarsSoWhite controversy behind them after it was revealed seven people of colour have been listed amongst the 20 acting nominations.
Fences star Denzel Washington has received a nod for Best Actor in a Leading Role whilst Loving's Ruth Negga secured a nomination in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category.
Moonlight's Mahershala Ali received a nod for the Best Supporting Actor gong whilst his co-star Naomie Harris will go head to head with Hidden Figures actress Octavia Spencer and Fences star Viola Davis for the Best Supporting Actress award.
It is the first time a black actor or actress has been nominated in every acting category - Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress - in the same year.
Elsewhere, in the directing category, Barry Jenkins secured a nomination for Moonlight whilst Ava DuVernay's 13th received a nod for Best Documentary Feature.
The Sun Online have contacted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for comment.
The 89th Academy awards will take place on Sunday 26 February.
