"'Dad I got this. Appreciate you wanting to help me but I need to this myself' So proud of you when you said this to me. Love you."

Wayne, who owns a nightclub empire in Spain, was ambushed outside superclub Eden Bar in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Shocking video showed the moment he was hit and fell to the floor after a tense argument on the street.

A group of at least 10 people are captured shouting over each other before the man comes running and Wayne holds a hand up in self defence.

One witness told The Sun the pair had fallen out after the thug and his mates began pestering Wayne's female pal, who is in her 20s.

As Wayne tried to leave in a taxi, the man - with a group of six pals - squared up to him and slammed the door shut.

He then runs up to Wayne, punches him in the jaw, and runs off.

The attacker and his pals quickly fled the scene as worried bystanders crowded around to check on Wayne.

He was knocked out at 4.04am - before coming back around around six minutes later at 4.10am.

An 18-year-old Welsh student who witnessed the punch said: "It was horrible - he looked like he could have been dead at one point.

"Wayne just fell on the floor and the man and his friends ran off. He was completely unconscious.

"He wasn't really speaking much when he did eventually come back round.

"I stayed to help him and the police turned up but they weren't there for long and didn't really do much and left quickly."

Wayne, brother to England football legend Gary Lineker, eventually left the area in a taxi around an hour later.

The 62-year-old is a doting dad to his four kids, sons Duane, Sean, and Freddie and daughter Tia.
