Solange slams Grammys for ‘cultural bias’ as Beyoncé loses out on the Album of the Year award AGAIN

Bey’s sister shared Frank Ocean’s post blasting the Grammys for lack of diversity in its nominees and winners

BEYONCE’S sister Solange appears to have accused the Grammys of “cultural bias” as the singer lost out on the Album of the Year award once again to a white person.

This was the third time that Bey had been up for the most coveted prize of the night; however when Lemonade was beaten by Adele’s 25, Solange tweeted a link to a blog post written by singer Frank Ocean highlighting how artists of colour frequently miss out on gongs to white people.

Simply tweeting “Whaddup Frank”, Solange let the blog do the talking.

In the piece addressed to the awards’ producers Ken Ehrlich and David Wild, Frank explained why he kept he decided not to submit his music for Grammy consideration, writing: “If you’re up for a discussion about the cultural bias and general nerve damage the show you produce suffers from then I’m all for it.”

This year Frank, Kanye West and Drake all skipped the Grammys in protest of the lack of diversity among its nominees, believing it didn’t represent black or younger artists, while Beyoncé, Rihanna and Drake were the only artists of colour nominated, all were snubbed for white people.

Frank wrote: "That institution certainly has nostalgic importance. It just doesn't seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down."

The singer also added that Taylor Swift’s 2016 win over Kendrick Lemar was “faulty.”

In previous years Beyonce has lost to Taylor Swift and Beck in the album of the year category.

Last night she picked up two awards out of her nine nominations, one for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Video.

Solange wasn’t the only person surprised that Beyoncé – who is expecting twins, missed out, so was the winner Adele, who split her Grammy in half to share with the star.

Addressing Bey in the audience, Adele said: “I can’t accept this award because, for me, Beyonce, Lemonade was amazing.
“It was so monumental and so soul bearing. We saw another side of you that we don’t always get to see.

"We adore you, you are our light. The way you make me feel, and the way you make my black friends feel, is amazing.
"I love you so much, I always have and always will."

She later added in a press conference: "Like I said in my speech, my album of the year is Lemonade. So a piece of me did die inside, as a Beyoncé fan — not going to lie.
"I was completely rooting for her, I voted for her. I felt like it was her time to win. What the f**k does she have to do to win Album of the Year?"
