Matt Damon’s feud with ‘talentless’ Jimmy Kimmel reignites on Oscars night as host calls him ‘fat’ and ‘bans him from getting up on stage’

JIMMY Kimmel reignited his feud with actor Matt Damon during the Oscars last as he took to the stage to host the ceremony for the first time.

As he chatted to the Hollywood elite, who were gathered in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the biggest night in the industry's calendar, he looked over at the actor who was sitting a few rows from the stage.

He said: “Tonight, in the spirit of healing and bringing people together, I would like to bury the hatchet with someone I’ve had issues with – Matt Damon.”

The camera then switched to the actor who was sitting next to wife Luciana Barroso, and pretended to look annoyed that Kimmel had turned his attentions to him.

Kimmel continued: “I’ve known Matt for a long time now, I’ve known Matt so long when I first met Matt, I was the fat one. True.”

He then went on to tell the audience about the issues they have had, calling him “a selfish person” but then added: “He did something very unselfish and I want to commend him for it.”

He then went on to tell the audience that Damon could have starred in Manchester by the Sea, which he produced, but instead gave it to Casey Affleck, who won the Best Actor Oscar for the role.

Kimmel joked that instead, he made a “Chinese ponytail movie”, which Damon couldn’t help but laugh at.

Earlier in the evening, Kimmel took to his Twitter page to post a photo of himself watching Damon arriving at last night’s awards and wrote: “Dead man walking the red carpet”, as Matt told his interviewer: “He’s talentless himself. Unfortunately, he’s got an incredible group of writers who work for him. So I’m afraid. I think I’m in for it tonight.”

And a few days ago he joked that he would do anything to stop him getting on the stage, referring to Damon crashing the stage during last September’s Emmy Awards which Kimmel was hosting to gloat over him losing the gong for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.

Of course, the whole feud is all very tongue-in-cheek and all began in 2005 when Damon was appearing as a guest on Kimmel’s chat show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ – but when he took a seat next to the host, Kimmel told him they had run out of time.

And so the fun began, with Kimmel’s then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman teamed up with Damon to make the music video “I’m F***ing Matt Damon’, which was aired on Kimmel’s show and then went viral.

In 2013, Damon hijacked Kimmel’s show, tied him up and hosted the programme himself and then a series of skits were aired which saw the pair participating in couples’ therapy.

Kimmel's mocking of Damon last night certainly provided some light relief for the audience and viewers on what was to end up being a memorable night for many but embarrassing and awkward for others.

The Oscars always comes to a close with the award for Best Picture, which legendary actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway came on stage to present.

They announced La Land as the winner and the film’s producer Jordan Horowitz accepted the award as he was joined on stage by the cast and crew.

However, panicked Oscars producers frantically took to the stage to halt celebrations as it was revealed that Moonlight was the actual winner, leaving Horowitz to announce: "This is not a joke. Moonlight is best picture,” before showing the camera and the audience a card that revealed the true winner to be Moonlight.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the firm responsible for the Academy voting, have now apologised for the epic mistake.

The Oscars accountants owned up to the embarrassing gaffe and admitted Beatty and Dunaway had been given the wrong envelope – a duplicate of the Best Leading Actress card.

Celebrities from Neil Patrick-Harris to Oprah quickly flocked to Twitter after the blunder.

And it wasn't long before fans took to social media to share some hilarious memes about the blunder as well as Ryan Gosling's date and Nicole Kidman's bizarre clapping.
