Speaking to the Sunday People the 25-year-old actor revealed fans of the show have praised him for raising awareness of difficult issues such as suicide.

He said: "People have approached me in the street and, very tentatively, whispered, ‘I hope you understand how powerful that storyline was – it’s helped me and family’.

He also said that people contact him to tell him how much he has “helped them”.

Danny-Boy also revealed that although he has had a lot of support from fans, he has also suffered at the hands of Internet trolls, he said that “people have threatened to stab me” and that “it’s important to ignore them”.
