CORONATION Street star Tristan Gemmill has admitted he auditioned for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale.

Tristan’s revelation happened during his appearance on Monday’s Loose Women with Coleen Nolan, Saira Khan, Christine Bleakley and Jane Moore.

Tristan explained: “I did audition for it before Daniel Craig, you know when they saw pretty much every actor in England who could walk upright.”

Other actors who went in for the part included Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor, with Tristan saying DVDs of the films they had been in were stacked up on the casting producer’s desk.

He added: “There were so many DVDs I could barely see her.”

Tristan, who plays Robert Preston in the ITV soap, would be up for taking on the role of 007 but admitted he thinks his chances are slim.

He said: “[It’s] very flattering and lovely but I have a feeling that ship has sailed.

“If the producers are by any chance watching and rethinking about it...I'm not available because I'm contracted to Corrie, but I could take a week off.”

The actor is currently involved in a slow-burn romance storyline with his co-star Kym Marsh’s character Michelle Connor.

Michelle discovered her husband Steve McDonald was the father of Leanne Battersby's baby Oliver and it seems she's set to rekindle the flame she shared with Robert when she first cheated on Steve.

Michelle is hurting at the moment and wants to do nothing more than hurt Steve

Spoiler pictures released by the ITV soap show the moment Michelle, backed by the other Connors, barricading herself in the pub and locking Steve and his mum Liz out.

The scenes which will air on Monday night see Michelle decide to take action to force Steve to give her a divorce and half of his assets.

It comes after Michelle left husband Steve McDonald in Coronation Street after he publicly announced he was the father of baby Oliver.
