The star in question is Matt King, known for playing Super Hans on Peep Show.

Before landing the role, he had been working as a builder, chef, DJ and stand-up comic in Australia for 15 years.

However, he got his lucky break when Peep Show's creators discovered him at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

They thought he was perfect for the part of Super Hans, Jez’s druggie friend who was partial to a bit of crack - although Matt has insisted he’s never touched drugs himself, and even quit booze in 2019.

More on unrecognisable stars

The much-loved character was well known for his outrageous one-liners.

However, a few years ago, he told his followers on X/Twitter that he doesn’t remember many of Super Hans’ edgy comments - because he has never watched the show that made him famous.

“Yes, sometimes I do forget things Hans said in Peep Show,” Matt tweeted.

“Because I've never sat down and watched an episode. Ever.

"Mainly cos I hate watching myself. So some of the very funny things I said TWENTY f***ing years ago, may on occasion, slip my mind.”

He added the hashtag: “#thiscrackisreallyaddictive”, which is a play on Super Hans’ infamous line: “I’ll tell you what, that crack is really more-ish.”

Best of Peep Show

Peep Show was a massive hit for Channel 4, and despite ending 10 years ago, still has an army of fans around the world.

Matt starred in the show alongside comedians David Mitchell and Robert Webb, who played the lead roles on Mark and Jez.

The show ran from 2003 until 2015, and fans can still watch it on Netflix.

LIFE AFTER PEEP SHOW

Following the end of Peep Show, Matt has continued acting, starring in TV drama The End of the F***ing World and the hit Paddington movie.

He also wrote a six-part British series, Whites, starring Alan Davies, and appeared in the music video for the Sam Fender single, Saturday.

Other roles include Doctor Who, and also appearing in the last ever episode of The IT Crowd.

Matt's next project is lending his voice to the reboot of the much-loved video game, Fable, which will be released in 2026.

DANNY DYER CONNECTION

It was previously revealed that Matt may never have been known for playing Super Hans, as the role was actually created for Danny Dyer.

In 2018, the Peep Show's boss revealed that Danny was originally lined up to play the part.

Comedy writer Sam Bain took to Twitter to make the shock revelation.

Responding to Peep Show star Robert Webb's tweet which revealed unknown secrets about the show including that "Russell Brand had auditioned for Super Hans", he tweeted: "We wrote Super Hans with Danny Dyer in mind."

At the time, fans were quick to comment on the shock revelation.

One gave a nod to the idea, writing: "I could very easily imagine Danny Dyer giving the 'You've been thinking thoughts your whole life, where has that got you!' line to Jez."

But another believed that the right actor had been chosen: "Think you got the casting just right.
