The mother of Love Island star Chris Hughes has implied the show might be scripted as she appeared on This Morning to defend her son's arrogant behaviour.
Val Hughes appeared on the daytime show alongside Marcel's mother Corleta Somerville and Gabby's mother Paula Allen.
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about some of Chris' arrogant comments when he first entered the villa, loyal mum Val claimed it might have been the work of the show's producers.
She explained: "When he first went in and said: 'All the girls fancy me.' That’s not Chris.
"You know, it makes you wonder if some of it isn't sort of scripted for them. That to us wasn't our Chris.
Val added: "What you're seeing now is the real Chris. He's funny, loyal, caring and he's quite endearing in his own way."
Viewers had found Chris' arrogance less than charming when he first entered the villa, but he's since won over followers and developed a budding romance with Olivia Atwood.
Val revealed she didn't think Chris and Olivia would win the show, but added that his bromance with Kem and the other boys in the house would last for life.
A representative for ITV responded to the comment and told The Sun Online: "The show is not scripted."
Blazin' Squad star Marcel and personal trainer Gabby Allen are the favourite couple to win the show and their mothers couldn't hide their joy about the pairing.
MORE FROM THE VILLA
However, Marcel's mother Corleta admitted it was a shock to discover her son had bedded over 300 women.
She joked: "Luckily he didn't bring them all to the house. He brought about 10 over the years. He's been very respectful to the house."
Corleta couldn't hide her smile as she continued: "He’s making me so proud. He’s taken on board everything we’ve tried to teach him in life."
Corleta continued: "Everyone is saying to me that he’s taken after me because I often give friends advice. He’s made us so proud."
While Gabby's mum Paula admitted her daughter had promised she wouldn't get up to anything too raunchy in the villa.
She explained: "She promised me but I was covering my face with the cushion at the end of last night's show."
- Love Island continued tonight at 9pm on ITV2
