What was the Taylor Swift grope picture of David Mueller?

A photograph captured the meeting between singer Taylor Swift, radio host David Mueller and his then-girlfriend Shannon Melcher during the June 2013 meet-and-greet.

In the photo, taken during Swift's RED concert tour, Swift is seen in a black dress smiling, while Mueller's hand reaches around her backside.

After the incident, Mueller's boss was informed of what happened, with the radio host losing his £115,890-a-year job several days later.

Mueller later claimed Swift had cost him his job and was seeking over £2 million in damages - but the Shake It Off singer counter-sued for sexual assault.

The controversial photo was used by both sides, with both arguing it proved that the incident had - and hadn't - happened.

The photograph was leaked by , with Swift previously having tried to keep it under wraps.

What was said by both sides?

During her hour-long testimony, Swift told the court she had "lurched away" from Mueller when he grabbed her, but the radio host didn't let go.

She immediately told her mother what had happened, with the singer's mother Andrea telling the court she knew something was "horribly wrong" afterwards.

Swift’s former bodyguard, Greg Dent, also said he saw the moment the DJ allegedly lifted the singer’s skirt.

Giving evidence, he said: “His hand went under her skirt, she jumped, moved her skirt down and moved closer to the girl and proceeded to have the pictured taken.

“I was standing off the side the girl, I could see their (Swift, Mueller, Melcher) backsides the entire time.

“I have no doubt that I saw Mueller place his hand under Taylor’s skirt, I couldn’t tell you how long it was up there."

But Mueller's lawyer Gabriel McFarland attempted to argue that the photo instead proved nothing untoward was happening, telling the court: "I submit to you that there is no way in this picture that Mr. Mueller’s hand is under Ms. Swift’s skirt and under her bottom.

“He’s not lifting up her skirt. Her skirt’s not disturbed. And the line of her skirt is straight. It’s not bent or ruffled at the side or in front. It’s perfectly aligned.”

Discussing the photo in question where the alleged grope took place he added: “Look at Miss Swift’s face. Ask yourself, is that the face of someone who just had a man grab her butt?”

What happened in the court case?

Taylor claimed the Colorado radio personality slipped his hand under her dress and grabbed her bare bottom as they posed.

Mueller, who was 51 at the time while Taylor was 23, claimed the photo just shows him trying to “jump into the frame”.

The judge threw out Denver-based Mueller’s case against Swift, saying it could not be proved that Swift got him fired.

The trial continued with Taylor’s claims of sexual assault, with the singer having to give evidence about the sexual assault.

She told the court it was a “despicable and horrifying” episode, saying: “He stayed attached to my bare a**-cheek as I lurched away from him.

“It was a definite grab. A very long grab.”

Taylor’s mum Andrea Swift, 59, told a court her daughter was left “destroyed” by Mueller’s alleged actions.

Swift was awarded a symbolic $1 (77p) in the civil case.
