Did Tom Petty toured recently?

Petty played his first UK concert in 18 years this summer when he closed the British Summertime series at Hyde Park with his band The Heartbreakers.

He was joined onstage by friend and Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks during the set which included hits such as Don't Back Down and Freefallin'.

This year marked the legendary band's 40th anniversary and saw them embark on what Petty had described as their last nationwide tour.

He told  last December: "I'm thinking it may be the last trip around the country. It's very likely we'll keep playing, but will we take on 50 shows in one tour? I don't think so. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was thinking this might be the last big one.

"We're all on the backside of our sixties. I have a granddaughter now I'd like to see as much as I can. I don't want to spend my life on the road. This tour will take me away for four months. With a little kid, that's a lot of time."

When did Tom Petty die?

On October 2, the musician, 66, was found unconscious and rushed to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital where he was put on life support.

Petty's family then placed a do not resuscitate order on the musician, whose room was visited by a chaplain prior to his sad passing.

A statement from Tom's manager Tony Dimitriades confirmed the tragic news and read: “We are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty.
