DOCTOR Foster fans have noticed a continuity error with a champagne cork during last night’s dramatic finale.
Amid all the drama, eagle-eyed viewers spotted what appeared to be a blunder during one of Gemma Foster’s flashback scenes.
In the scene, which is a throwback to happier times, Gemma (Suranne Jones) and Simon (Bertie Carvel) are seen sitting on the patio outside their house talking about their son Tom.
As they joke about not wanting to grow old and boring, Simon pops a bottle of champagne and the cork – which looked like it was plastic - appears to go flying across the garden.
But moments later Simon presented the cork, which was now an actual cork, to Gemma as a reminder of their evening.
Those watching at home clocked the apparent cork error and took to Twitter to point out the gaffe.
One person remarked: “Most dramatic thing in Doctor Foster was when that champagne cork shot fifty feet into the air only for it to be in his hand a second later!”
A second tweeted: “Most exciting bit of this episode was wondering how the cork got from one end of the garden back to Simon?? 😪😪😪 #DoctorFoster.”
While a third wrote: “Is no one going to mention how that cork flew 200mph off the bottle and then somehow Simon had it in his hand? 🙄 #doctorfoster.”
Aside from that viewers were confused how Simon, who had lost everything apart from the suit on his back, happened to have the same cork on him years later – which he then gave Gemma in the finale.
“#DoctorFoster So he lost everything but still had the champagne cork?,” wrote one.
And someone else questioned: “Did Simon carry the Cork around all these years until he needed it? That must have been uncomfy in his pocket everyday.. 🤔 #DoctorFoster.”
Last night viewers were left divided as the final episode of the second series aired and both Gemma and Simon survived, despite numerous attempts on the latter's part to take his own life.
In an unexpected plot twist the series ended as their troubled teenage son Tom (Tom Taylor) ran away, the pressure of his parents' constant warring having become too much for him to deal with.
