How old was David Cassidy when he died and what was the Partridge Family star’s cause of death?
POP star David Cassidy died aged 67 after suffering from multiple organ failures.
The former teen idol, who appeared in 1970s sitcom The Partridge Family, battled against ill health before passing away in November 2017 surrounded by his loved ones.
Who was David Cassidy?
David Cassidy was born in New York City on April 12 1950, the son of singer and stage star Jack Cassidy and actress Evelyn Ward.
He made his stage debut in 1969 while still a teenager, before signing with Universal Studios and moving to Los Angeles.
Cassidy was cast as Keith Partridge in the musical TV show The Partridge Family in 1970, a role which catapulted him into the spotlight.
The show ran until 1974, and spawned the release of eight studio albums and five compilations.
The Partridge Family scored the biggest selling song of 1970 with I Think I Love You which featured David on lead vocals. The song remains the star's most well-known hit.
After leaving The Partridge Family, Cassidy became a solo superstar, selling out concerts across the world – including six shows at Wembley Stadium over one weekend in 1973.
Such was the hysteria that the heartthrob generated that the media coined the phrase "Cassidymania".
His success continued into the 1980s when he performed "The Last Kiss" alongside George Michael, who cited him as one of his major influences.
Although his singing career waned in recent decades, Cassidy has continued to tour and make TV appearances, including an episode of Malcolm in the Middle and a stint on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2011.
Cassidy has been married three times – to Kay Lenz from 1977 to 1983, Meyl Tanz from 1984 to 1985 and Sue Shifrin, who he married in 1991 and divorced from last year.
He has two children, Beau, born in 1991, and Katie, an acclaimed actress who has starred in Arrow and Gossip Girl.
The singer experienced a string of legal problems in recent years, including several arrests on suspicion of drink-driving, and a court-ordered rehab stint in 2014.
What health problems was David Cassidy battling?
In early 2017, Cassidy revealed he was battling dementia and planned to stop touring to concentrate on his health.
He confirmed he was fighting the disease after he was filmed slurring and falling off stage during a gig.
However, 7 months after the stars death, it has been revealed David lied about his dementia diagnosis to cover up his heavy drinking.
In an excerpt from a new documentary, David Cassidy: The Last Session, the pop singer said: "I have a liver disease. There is no sign of me having dementia at this stage of my life.
"The fact is, I lied about my drinking. I did it to myself, to cover up the sadness and the emptiness."
Co-producer Saralena Weinfield told People magazine that the documentary makers were unsure at first what to do with the footage and the telephone recording.
"We didn't want to exploit him. But ultimately he was honest about what killed him and we decided that his legacy would be best served if we shared that."
