Ashley gets compared to Meatloaf rather than the One Direction hunk as First Dates gets underway
A FIRST Dates contestant who fancied himself as a Harry Styles lookalike has met a mixed reaction from fans.
TV hopeful Ashley, 23, from Huddersfield introduced himself as someone who gets compared to the former One Direction Heartthrob - a lot - however fans stopped him in his tracks when they said he looked more like crooner Meatloaf.
During a VT to set to One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful', he talked about his comparison to his idol.
However several viewers thought otherwise, and took to social media to air their views after First Dates on Mondays on Channel 4.
Others came up with hilarious memes, and compared him to anyone other than the Sign of the Times singer.
Ashley courted controversy within minutes of his VT sending viewers into a frenzy.
Viewers flocked to Twitter to air their opinions - with one fan commenting: "Huddersfield’s own Michael Bolton
Another eagle eyed viewer said he reminded them of something out of the Jungle Book.
They said: "Apparently they say he's like Harry styles! I'm seeing more Tarzan!?! #FirstDates"
The jokes didn't stop there - on the contrary they came flooding in after Ashley was introduced on the show.
Handsome Ashley oozed confidence on the show.
He wore his hair just like his idol, making the most of his shoulder length locks similar to how Harry wore it in his One Direction days.
It seems he had no idea about the social media storm that would follow and indeed carry on throughout the show after his introduction to One Direction's most famous track What Makes You Beautiful.
One First Dates fan tweeted: "He does like quite like Harry Styles if you are blind and not got a clue who Harry Styles is #firstdates."
One wrote: "Harry Styles? More like Predator. #FirstDates #holmfirth #teeth"
Other than Ashley, other contestants included a pilot who flew themselves from Berlin to the restaurant.
There were also two estate agents who made lewd jokes about a horse, which didn't go down so well with the viewers either.
