Alex Best denies romance with Lembit Opik and says he’s ‘not her type’
ALEX Best insists there’s nothing “intimate” going on between herself and ex-MP Lembit Opik – because he’s simply not the sort of man she’d go for.
Former model Alex - who was once married to the late soccer legend George Best - decided to speak out after Lembit, 52, was dumped by his lawyer girlfriend Sabina Vankova.
Sabina accused the former Lib Dem member of spending the night with Alex, and claimed Lembit accidentally sent her photos of himself playing with Alex’s boobs while they were on holiday in Marrakech last September.
But Alex is adamant she and Lembit – who once dated Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia – are just friends.
She said: “It’s totally untrue. Lembit and I have been friends for 13 years. We met at a Great Ormond Street Hospital event and we’ve been extremely good friends ever since.
“But there’s never, ever been anything intimate. He’s not really my type. He is a lovely, lovely friend, and a kind person with a good soul.”
However, Alex did admit the photos looked a little incriminating.
She said: “Lembit’s very tactile. He was just larking around. It looks inappropriate but it wasn’t.
“I tried to speak to Sabina over the weekend, to put her mind at rest, but she doesn’t want to listen to my side.”
Sabina took to Twitter earlier this month to announce she had dumped Lembit, with whom she raises a 5 month old daughter.
She said: "Just ended the relationship with @lembitopik - the woman with whom he spent Monday night can have him now all for herself."
Sabina was said to be furious after Lembit and Alex enjoyed a night out at the pub.
A source told The Sun: : “Lembit and Alex had been hanging out at a pub for the evening, the Kingswood Arms in Tadworth.

“They’ve been friends for many years and Sabina knows that, but staying over at her house appears to have been the final straw.
“She is absolutely furious and told him the relationship is over as soon as she found out. She’s livid.
“There have been strains over his friendship with Alex in the past but this was the final straw.”
