The actor's career continued with his leading role as Michael Knight on Knight Rider in the 80s TV show and then as L.A. County Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in Baywatch in the 90s.
David produced Baywatch from the 1990s until 2001 when the series ended with Baywatch Hawaii.

He has tied the knot for the third time, to long-term partner Hayley Roberts.
The 66-year-old and his 38-year-old bride married in a small ceremony in Puglia, Italy on July 31 2018.
Guests included friends and family, plus David's two daughters Taylor, 28 and Hayley, 25.
Before the wedding, David told : "We're gonna get married, but a very small wedding with her family in Puglia, which is southern Italy.
"And then from there we're gonna go to the Maldives and we'll stay underwater for about two weeks."
David was first married to actress Catherine Hickland from 1984 to 1989.
He then wed actress Pamela Bach in December 1989.
The couple have two daughters.
