PHILLIP Schofield was forced to tell former footie agent Eric Hall to be quiet during a tense debate about Jamie Carragher's spitting scandal on today's This Morning.

The presenter and co-host Holly Willoughby were Eric Hall and former WAG Lizzie Cundy to discuss the furore around the 40-year-old sportsman.

Ex-Liverpool star Jamie was filmed spitting at a 14-year-old girl after he was goaded about the Anfield side's 2-1 derby defeat to Manchester United.

Jamie has been suspended from his role as a pundit on Sky Sports.

On today's show, Eric defended the Carragher, telling the hosts his apology should have done enough for him to keep his job.

He said: "I think what he did with the spitting was disgraceful. He’s apologised to 99 people. He’s apologised.

“Why should he be sacked? Maybe he should resign.

"If I was his agent I’d say, ‘Resign. BT Sport will take you for double the money. He’s done what he’s got to do.”

But Lizzie disagreed and believed Jamie should be punished for his shocking behaviour.

She said: "Jamie needs to resign and BT Sport should fire him - it’s vile.”

“Jamie himself said in 2005 that spitting is the worst thing you can do.”

As they continued the debate, Eric refused to stop talking over Lizzie, with Phil having to tell him: "Eric let her speak!"

But Eric refused to cooperate and kept talking as Lizzie tried to make her point.

Phil told him to "hang on" four times but he didn't take any notice, so Phil ended up raising his voice and widening his eyes as he said again: "Eric, hang on!"

Viewers agreed with Phil's tough stance on Eric, with one writing on Twitter: "Eric Hall, what a horrible man. This is not a debate. Let someone else speak. He’s not helping at all!
