IT is 40 years since Grease hit cinemas – and fans are still hopelessly devoted.
The 1978 musical movie made stars of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and even now its classic anthems You’re The One That I Want and Greased Lightning still light up dance floors.
It also earned £250million at the box office, making it one of the highest-grossing musicals in movie history.
Graeme Culliford looks back at the actors who played the gang from Rydell High and tells you what has happened to them since . . .
JEFF CONAWAY (Kenickie)
Jeff injured his back during the Greased Lightning scene, which led to an addiction to painkillers.
He died aged 60 from drug- related pneumonia in 2011.
KELLY WARD (Putzie)
Kelly, now 61, struggled to find acting jobs after the film but ended up a successful voice director.
He admits to a “profound crush” on Olivia.
DINAH MANOFF (Marty)
Dinah went on to act on stage and TV, where she also directed.
Now 62, tragedy struck last year when one of her three sons died in a car crash at 19.
MICHAEL TUCCI (Sonny)
After Grease Michael work on television, toured with the musical Chicago and starred in 2013 movie The Heat as well as teaching art.
Now 71, he says: “The film made me seem important in my family.”
STOCKARD CHANNING (Rizzo)
Now 74, Stockard's stellar CV includes The West Wing and an Oscar nomination for 1993’s Six Degrees Of Separation.
She has been divorced four times.
BARRY PEARL (Doody)
Barry went on to act in hit TV shows including Murder She Wrote, Beverly Hills 90210, House, Criminal Minds and ER.
Now 68, he teaches acting to children with special needs.
JOHN TRAVOLTA (Danny)
John became a Hollywood A-lister but is still fond of Grease.
Now 64, he said recently: “That was a monumental moment in history, that movie. And it still continues to communicate.”
