When was Aidan Connor's suicide in Coronation Street? Why did he take his life?

Coronation Street has highlighted the important issue of male suicide after Aidan Connor (played by Shayne Ward) took his own life in scenes that aired on May 7.

In an hour-long episode on May 9, Johnny Connor discovered his son’s body at his Victoria Street flat, after Aidan failed to turn up for work at the factory.

After a secret battle with depression, Aidan leaves his devastated family and friends in a state of shock as they come to terms with their loss.

No element of the suicide was shown on screen.

In an exclusive interview, The Sun Online revealed that Aidan will be leaving the Underworld factory to Alya Nazir in his will.

However, Adam tries to convince Carla and Jenny that in order to keep hold of the factory they must claim Aidan was not sound of mind when he left the business to Alya - only time will tell if they take him up on his advice.

Aidan Connor's funeral aired on Wednesday, June 13.

At the funeral itself, Johnny delivered an emotional eulogy to his son - which reduced Eva to tears as run out of the church.

When did Eva Price give birth to Aidan's daughter?

Eva gave birth in the episode shown on April 30, 2018.

While everyone thought that she'd gone to America to do a beauty course, she was actually staying in a cottage in Lymm paid for by her sister Toyah.

Viewers last saw Aidan on screen on Monday May 7, 2018 when he went to see Eva at the cottage where she is living with their baby Susie.

He then returned to a family party at the Rovers and his final scene saw him back at his flat alone, sobbing.

What has Shayne Ward said about the suicide storyline?

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Shayne Ward who plays tragic Aidan said:

“A lot of people who are considering attempting suicide have got in touch to say, ‘I’m calling somebody now. I was attempting it and you’ve helped me.’

“The response has been truly overwhelming.”

Ward also commented: “I am honoured to have been trusted with a storyline like this, it shows the confidence that Kate and the team had in me to be able to play it.

"When you get given a storyline like this it is a decision that is not taken lightly, I have played it with as much honesty and truth as I could.

"I am very proud of what I have done in my three years on the show and on this storyline in particular.

“Aidan is an ‘everyman’ figure, he is someone men can identify with, which is important in telling this story.

"We hope that anyone who recognises something of themselves in Aidan, will realise they can, and really should, talk about how they’re feeling.
