Viewers were upset when Jack and the rest of the original male line-up were sent to Casa Amor where they were joined by six new female contestants - including Jack's ex-lover Ellie.

When Dani was shown a clip of their meeting, the Essex barmaid burst into floods of tears as she feared her relationship with Jack would end.

ITV told concerned viewers: "We understand your strong feelings towards the clip that was shown to Dani...

"When Islanders agree to appear on Love Island they do so with the aim of finding love. However, they are also aware that they are taking part in a game with a £50,000 prize for the winners. We talk at length to all of the Islanders before entering the villa to say that the relationships they form will be tested."

The email goes on to add how Love Island is a "more extreme form of dating" and that the Casa Amor challenge is "perhaps the hardest for any of the villa relationships."

It goes on to suggest Dani would've known what to expect as a fan of the previous series which involved a similar incident with a postcard sent from the second villa.

Love Island bosses have reassured fans that they "take the welfare of contestants very seriously and have a medical team and psychologist on hand at all times."

Outraged members of the public lodged grievances with the broadcasting watchdog having seen Dani break down after she was played a clip of her boyfriend Jack coming face to face with his ex Ellie Jones in Casa Amor on Sunday night's episode.

An Ofcom spokesperson told The Sun Online: “We are considering these complaints against our broadcasting rules, before deciding whether or not to investigate.”

Ofcom received 650 complaints about the Casa Amor task and it's impact on Dani Dyer.

The number of complaints is higher than EastEnders received for its recent stabbing stoyline, which was just three, and a vast number more than the amount last summer’s Big Brother got, which was 20.
