Fiona Bruce offered Question Time job to make her show’s first female host

FIONA Bruce has been offered the job of Question Time host.

Fiona, 54, was offered the position yesterday after impressing Beeb bosses in secret auditions.

She is now in talks to take over from current host David Dimbleby from the beginning of 2019.

Stalwart David, 80, announced this summer that he would be stepping down from the role  at the end of the year.

Former Newsnight Review host Kirsty Wark, 63, current Newsnight host  Emily Maitlis, 48, and Emma Barnett, 33,  were all mooted for the hotseat.

But last month Fiona and Victoria Derbyshire vied for the role in secret pilot episodes in front of panellists and an audience.

Broadcaster Victoria, 50, impressed in audience interactions but Fiona was better able to control panellists.

A spokesman for the BBC said: “We don’t comment on speculation.”
