JAMES Jordan has been crowned the winner of Dancing On Ice final 2019, after a tense battle with Wes Nelson and Saara Aalto.

Tonight two million votes were cast, with the Strictly star, 40,  and his skating partner Alexandra Schauman romping to victory over Wes after X Factor star Saara came in third place.

Lifting the trophy, James - who was nursing a shoulder injury, said as he fought back tears:  "I can't believe it. Oh my Gosh. I couldn't have given it any more."

He said the only reason he had to work so hard was to beat Wes, who came second in the ITV competition.

The three final contenders each had to skate two routines, one new and one favourite from earlier in the 10-week series.

Wes and Saara both scored top marks of 40 out of 40 for their first skate while James was just behind on 39 out of 40.

However, he pulled it back up for his second performance, which saw all three receive 40 from the panel Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and Jason Gardiner.

Saara was eliminated first after a public vote but said she still felt "so good" about what she and her skating partner Hamish Gaman had achieved.

"This is the best night for us," she said.

The final challenge saw Jordan and Nelson skating their interpretation of Bolero, the routine that won Olympic gold for Torvill and Dean in 1984.

Both received standing ovations from the panel.

After he and  Alexandra performed their Bolero, Christopher Dean told them it was one of "the best" he had ever seen performed in the history of the show.

And when Wes and Vanessa left the ice after their own final skate, the Love Island star admitted their routine had been one of the highlights of his life.

He said: "I can't describe the feeling, that was the best thing I've ever done."

James has faced criticism throughout his time on the show because he was a professional dancer and some viewers felt it wasn't fair for him to take part.

James Jordan executes daring lift during performance of the bolero routine in Dancing On Ice finale

He continually hit back at claims and insisted the discipline was completely different.

After the result was announced some unhappy viewers took to Twitter to suggest it was a fix, saying that Wes was "robbed".

His  win comes after he was forced to miss a crucial rehearsal ahead of the final after injuring his shoulder.

He suffered a subluxed shoulder (partial dislocation) in rehearsals yesterday when he fell on his arm.

Holly sympathised with the star after his incredible first performance.

He wasn’t the only one injured - rival Wes “popped a bone in his wrist” while training with partner Vanessa.

Wes wowed during tonight's show after getting top marks of 40 out of 40 from judges Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and Jason Gardiner as the show kicked off.

Host Phillip Schofield couldn't resist making a joke about his relationship with Vanessa Bauer - asking Holly Willoughby if he wanted to see them "pumping".

His person even led to usual Mr Nasty Jason Gardiner making a cheeky comment as he revealed he was "perving" on Wes.

The dramatic final saw the return of all this year's contestants and their professional partners as they took to the ice for one last skate.

Holly sparked a Twitter debate thanks to her designer frock, which some fans thought looked like it had been patched up with gaffer tape.

Following a week of uncertainty following her row with Jason Gardiner, Gemma Collins did make it back to take a spin with Matt Evers.

Phil turned to Gemma, 38, and said 'you're back' as she replied: "For one night only, never to be seen in the ice again""

And Brian McFadden admitted: "I haven't missed it at all, I've been sitting on the sofa all week eating pizza."

The Towie star sparked headlines early on in the ITV series by falling on the ice in dramatic fashion and rowing with judge Jason Gardiner.

She vowed to  return for the final after being booted off the show in the sixth week, saying: "I'm going to skate like it's the last day of my life."

But her performance failed to impress with her performance and she was accused of "not skating".
