BBC hold training event after Love Island’s Mike Thalassitis’ death to teach producers how to deal with mental health
The session on Monday is thought to have been pre-planned and came 48 hours after the tragic death of the Love Island star

BBC bosses held a training event yesterday teaching their show’s producers how to deal with mental health.
The session, which sources say was pre-planned, came just 48 hours after tragic Love Island star Mike Thalassitis’ death.
A BBC insider said: “The mental health of all the contributors on BBC shows, whether made in house or by an independent company, is important.
“We work with lots of companies to make sure how they act on all the programmes they make is consistent. It’s an important issue across the industry.”
A BBC spokesman said: “ ”Discussion and planning around care for those taking part in our programmes is always a core part of all our production when shows involve members of the public.

“There are plans which go from initial casting and pre production through to after care beyond transmission. We have editorial guidelines to help protect vulnerable contributors.
“We continue to work with independent producers, external specialists and others in the industry to develop best practice in this area.”
