Virgin Radio’s Chris Evans is gobsmacked as Jo Malone reveals she was fired from her job as a florist for chucking a bucket of water over her boss’s head

The perfumer stunned Chris when she revealed why she was sacked from her first job

VIRGIN Radio’s Chris Evans could hardly contain his disbelief as Jo Malone CBE revealed she’d once thrown a bucket of water over her boss’s head.

The candle and fragrance mogul admitted that in her first job at a florist she’d lost her temper and drenched her former manager with flower water - stalks and leaves included.

Speaking on the show, the entrepreneur recalled the hilarious encounter to host, Chris.

Introducing her as a “really lovely-smelling woman” and celebrating “25 years as a shopkeeper”, Chris asked the 55-year-old about her first job.

She said: “My first job was in a flower shop when I was 15 or 16 years old.

“I loved it but I got fired from that because I tipped a bucket of water over somebody, which wasn’t very clever.”

Sounding quite shocked, Chris asked: “On purpose?”

“Unfortunately, yeah, I did, " Jo admitted.

Elaborating a little more, the CBE said: “It was a very hot summers day and I’d been to the market to get all the flowers and I’d been told off ‘cause I hadn’t done it properly.

“So I was sitting there doing the geraniums and decided that was it. I was off and picked up the bucket and threw it over her and really regretted it. I could see leaves in hair thinking, ‘Ooo what have I just done?’

“Was obviously fired, obviously, and then made my way up to Elizabeth Street where I had my second job and that’s where my shopkeeper story began.”

Chris, 52, then asked if she knew where that lady was now and Jo replied she hadn’t but if she ever got the opportunity to see her she would “be on her knees saying I’m really sorry”.

Jo remarked that it wasn’t very cool, before Chris quipped - “well, cool for her.”
