Coronation Street’s Alex Warner actor Liam Bairstow announces he’s finished filming as Cathy’s nephew and is leaving to pursue stage work
He made the announcement on Twitter - and fans were devastated

CORONATION Street star Liam Bairstow, who plays Alex Warner, has announced on Twitter he’s leaving the show.
The actor told fans: “This is it for now for TV time. I have done all my episodes and I’m now doing stage work.”
“I had the best time of my life with you and it’s time to think forward in life.”
However, he did say that his character – who has been on the show since 2015 as Cathy Matthews’ nephew – might be back in the future.
“Now and then I will be back to make more some more professional tv work,” he added.
A soap insider tells The Sun Online that Liam isn’t contracted as a regular cast member and “will always be in and out”. A Coronation Street spokesperson insisted: "Liam has not left Coronation Street and will be back filming with us at the end of this month."
Fans were devastated by his announcement – and immediately begged him to come back to the show.
“I’ll miss seeing you on my telly. Come back soon” said one, while another added: “All the very best for the future, Liam. You will be missed.”
Another said: “Gutted to see you go, Liam. What an absolute star you are, extremely inspiring. I wish you all the best for your future plans, there’s no doubt you’re going to absolutely smash it.”
Liam, who has Down’s Syndrome, was cast in the soap after producers ran a workshop for disabled actors and were impressed with his acting.
At the time, producer Stuart Blackburn said: “It's not some politically correct thing. We actually found there a really great actor with a wonderful sense of timing."
It comes just one day after The Sun’s Bizarre TV revealed Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead Tinker, is set to leave the soap.
Katie is the sixth actor to leave the show in the last three months – joining Faye Brookes, Kym Marsh, Tristan Gemmill, Bhavna Limbachia and Connie Hyde in a max exodus from the soap.
