Fans admitted they are 'clock watching' today as they wait for the final episode to air at 9pm

LINE of Duty's Martin Compston has revealed tonight's finale features a surprise ending that has sentimental meaning to the cast - and warned fans not to switch off and miss it.

The 34-year-old actor, who plays Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, told viewers to stick around until the "very end" in order to see the extra "little something" that show bosses have lined up.

Martin stopped short of revealing what the scene means for the plot or if it will air before or after the final credits roll.

But his orders were clear when he told fans on Sunday: "Hey folks hopefully if your jaws are back up from the floor in time, there’s a little something at the very end of the show which means a lot to the whole @Line_of_duty family.

"Much appreciated if you could stay tuned for it"

His tweet racked up nearly seven thousand likes and hundreds more were delighted with his request
