HARRY Styles shocked fans when he 'raided his nan's wardrobe' and turned up at last night's Met Gala in a sheer jumpsuit, high heels, nail varnish - and a pearl earring.

The outfit showed off the 25-year-old former One Direction star's tattoos - and nipples - as he arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele.

One fan tweeted: "Harry Styles😍 omg that's such an awesome outfit🔥 ."

Another delighted follower raved: "There is a god and his name is Harry Styles."

However, plenty were ready to poke fun at him - including Piers Morgan on GMB this morning - with one writing: "Hes been in his nans wardrobe."

Others branded the star a "prize wally" while another joked: "I’ve just brought the exact same outfit 😫😫😂."

Lady Gaga, 33, opened proceedings by stripping to her underwear in a shocking four-change display.

She started off in a billowing pink gown before being unbuttoned to reveal ever-tighter outfits, culminating in her writhing on the steps in just her underwear.

Singer and actress Gaga, 33, is co-chair of this year's super-fancy event, alongside tennis ace Serena Williams and former 1D star Harry.

They have to arrive before all the other stars because one of their tasks is to line up and shake hands with the hundreds of guests as they file in.

The theme for the this year's gala, one of the biggest events in the fashion calendar, is 'Camp: Notes on Fashion'.

The gala sees models, musicians and sports stars dressing up in aid of charity, with tables - which you have to be invited to buy - costing up to £230,000.

The fashion ball, which is organised by Vogue supremo Anna Wintour, raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
