Coronation Street gives fans first look at Gemma Winter’s mum as Casualty star Jane Hazlegrove joins the cast

CORONATION Street has given fans a sneak peek at Gemma Winter's mum as former Casualty star Jane Hazlegrove joins the cast.
The ITV soap shared a picture on Facebook showing Jane in her new character, alongside on-screen daughter, Gemma and Chesney Brown.
Jane, who played Dixie in Casualty, will be onscreen from next month as Gemma and Paul's "old raver" mum who lets her kids down - and ruffles feathers on the Street.
Playing 'Bernie' soap bosses have described her as her as a "free spirit”, adding: "Bernie doesn’t like to hold down a job or any responsibilities”.
Viewers first heard about unreliable Bernie last month after she failed to pick Gemma up as she was fleeing the street.
And with daughter Gemma pregnant with Chesney’s baby – or babies – she’s going to need her mum to turn over a new leaf.
GEMMA was shocked when she discovered she was pregnant with Chesney Brown’s baby - and left feeling confused about what to do considering they’ve just broken up.
But after having a heart-to-heart with Dr Gaddas, Gemma decided that she would keep the baby and face life as a single mum.
But Gemma could be in for even more of a shock as it was revealed earlier this year that Gemma would find out she’s carrying FOUR babies when she has her 12-week scan.
Dolly-Rose Campbell, who plays Gemma Winter, has also spoken out about the arrival of her character's mum, saying she thinks it's "great" that audiences will finally get to meet her.
"We have heard so much about her and not much of it is good, so I think we will get a real insight into what made Gemma the person she is today," Dolly-Rose explained recently.
"For Gemma to have her mum there when she is pregnant is perfect. Paul is suspicious of Bernie's motives for turning up, but Gemma wants to give her a chance."
