Maura Higgins’ mum insists she’s only had lip fillers after her pre-Love Island transformation is revealed
LOVE Island's Maura Higgins' mother has said that her daughter has only had lip fillers - after the Irish grid girl's old modelling photos surfaced and sparked plastic surgery speculation.
The 28-year-old's mum Sharon has hit back at claims that the reality star had ever gone under the knife before going on the popular ITV2 series, insisting that her daughter's looks have "matured" since the shots were taken.
Speaking to the , Sharon came out in defence of the ring girl, who entered the Villa on Wednesday night's episode, and explained that the "before" photos were taken 10 years ago.
She said: "She's 28 now. She has matured. She never got plastic surgery ever. The only thing she ever got done - and she never hid it, she had it up on her own Instagram - was she got some lip filler. Because she had quite thin lips."
Sharon also confirmed that Maura was engaged to her childhood sweetheart after the model listed herself as "engaged" on shopping app, Depop, but it "fizzled out".
She said ex-fiancé: "Maura was in a nine-year relationship and she got engaged to that guy and that just fizzled out."
Her mother's comments come in the wake of Maura's before and after pictures, which prompted many to speculate over whether she's had plastic surgery.
Maura strutted into the villa with her plumped-up lips pouting and her enviable curves spilling out of her fitted white dress.
But posing in photos taken in April 2012 Maura looked remarkably different.
The stunner has enjoyed a successful modelling career and even starred in a music video with One Direction's Liam Payne.
Her early modelling shots - taken when she was 21 - reveal her thinner lips, and a flatter bum.
Maura, from County Longford, Ireland, describes herself as confident without being cocky and is hoping the lads in the villa will be won over by her eyes.
When asked what she rates herself, she said: “I’d say a seven? I’d say my eyes are my best feature, only because that’s the compliment I get the most!”
She has promised not to split up Amy and Curtis, but says any other Islander is fair game.
Earlier this week, The Sun Online revealed a fresh fix scandal on Love Island as a picture of Maura partying with Olivia Attwood was unveiled for the first time.
In the unearthed Instagram snaps, Maura stands alongside Olivia as the pair pose together at various different locations for track meetings across the UK and Europe.
The pair look like firm friends in the photos, with them even enjoying a few drinks with their pals after an event in Italy.
Maura and Olivia's last photo together was taken in March 2017, just a few months before Olivia shot to fame on the ITV2 reality show.

Meanwhile Essex girl Elma firmly sets her sights on Tommy AND Danny after entering the villa with Maura.
Ahead of her arrival into the Villa, Elma said: "It's kind of every person for themselves. At the moment I like Danny, who has just gone in. He’s pleasing to the eye.
"Tommy is nice too, but he’s quite young. His head gets turned a lot."
