1. Stanley Johnson is a Sun man

Stanley, 77, writes for the nation's favourite newspaper as The Sun's wildlife correspondent.

He takes part in debates over animal rights and is a keen lover of nature.

Stanley recently wrote a touching defence of the conservation work of British zoos after the tragic death of a keeper.

He said: "The Bali tiger is just one breed that is practically extinct and zoos allow us to keep them alive for future generations."

2. Stanley did not tell son Boris that he was going on I'm A Celeb

Stanley kept secret his signing up to appear on the hit ITV show — not even revealing to his Foreign Secretary son Boris that he would be jetting out to Oz to take part.

He said: “I don’t think Boris knows. We were told strictly not to tell anybody. I haven’t told anyone and I stick by the rules, I can tell you.

“I very much doubt he will ever hear about it.

“Don’t tell me he’s going to hear about it, it’s very unlikely. Knowing Boris he may never find out.”

3. His worst moment in the Jungle was during the Factory of Fear

Despite believing he would ace the Bushtucker trials before he went into the Jungle, Stanley revealed that had a lot of trouble with one trial in particular.

Revealing to the Express, Stanley said:

“I was doing the Factory of Fear where you were tied to this rotating tail table top, obviously you had goggles on but it was dark dark dark.

“My god, I was trying to throw a ball into a hopper when it was going round and round and there were snakes and rats and god knows what, and I kept on missing.”

4. Stanley is a former MEP who backed Remain in the EU Referendum

Stanley was a fervent Remain supporter during the 2016 EU Referendum.

While son Boris was leading the Brexit vanguard, Stanley, who was once a Tory MEP, was holding rallies to try to urge voters to stay in the European Union.

But he has now come to back Brexit, saying: "Mr Juncker’s Federal Express is heading down the track at an ever-increasing speed in a direction we really don’t want to go.

“Even if Britain stayed on board, I doubt if we would be able to change the points on the track ahead, or even slow the train down.”

5. Stanley's grandfather was assassinated

Stanley's paternal grandfather was one of the last interior ministers in the crumbling Ottoman empire.

Ali Kemal was assassinated during the Turkish War of Independence in November 1922.

A lynch mob set upon him and he was hanged by extreme nationalists.
