Denmark star Christian Eriksen is better than Brazil’s Neymar, insists Peter Schmeichel

Legendary Danish stopper Schmeichel would rather have his compatriot Eriksen in his team rather than the world's most expensive footballer

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is better than Brazilian star Neymar according to Danish legend Peter Schmeichel.

Eriksen scored a beauty in Denmark's 1-1 draw with Australia in Group C and Schmeichel tweeted he would prefer his compatriot in his side rather than the world's most expensive player.

Neymar is expected to start tomorrow in Brazil's crunch clash with Costa Rica, a must-win game for the five-time world champions following their 1-1 draw with Switzerland in their opener on Sunday.

That is despite the fact that the £198million man was seen hobbling out of training this week with pain in his ankle.

But the Great Dane isn't alone in preferring Eriksen over Neymar.

Two hours after the tweet went out, 13,500 votes had been cast on the ex-goalkeeper's tweet with 53 per cent choosing Eriksen and 47 per cent picking Neymar and you can have your say in our poll below.

Eriksen's fine finish opened the scoring for Denmark in the draw against Australia, with Mile Jedinak beating Peter's son Kasper from the penalty spot to equalise.

The result leaves the Danes on four points after they beat Peru on Saturday and gives them a fantastic chance to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since 2002.

Brazil are still expected to top their group despite failing to beat Switzerland as they face Costa Rica and group leaders Serbia in Group E.

And the but could face Germany in the Round of 16 if results work out.
