Mischievous England fans demand Ikea boycott ahead of England and Sweden’s World Cup showdown

ENGLAND fans have called for a boycott of Ikea ahead of the Three Lions' clash with Sweden on Saturday — saying we need to "hit them where it hurts".

Mischievous supporters rallied on social media today after Gareth Southgate’s side overcame Columbia in a tense penalty shoot-out last night.

England now face Sweden in the quarter-finals this weekend as they hope to make it to a World Cup semi final for the first time since 1990.

Some fans asked whether the Swedes would line up with a “flat-pack four” and made other cheeky references to Ikea products.

Uwdi Krugg @UwdiKrugg tweeted: “Saturday is payback time for all those missing screws & complicated instructions. You boring cardboard b*******. #Ikea #Sweden #WorldCup.”

Allastair @AllastairMcG tweeted: “Is @HKane our (allen) key to dismantling the Swedes? The winner takes it all. #WorldCup2018 #Abba #IKEA #3lions.”

One fan joked that if England lost the game “I’m going to Ikea and unscrewing all the show cabinets and beds.”

Supporters also made reference to other things associated with Sweden.

Robert Rea @robertrea tweeted: “Mighty Sweden. Home of Ikea, Abba, Volvos, a fairly enlightened attitude to sex, and a so-so football team”.

James Meadows @mead_jam86 added: “So Saturday is the big one. It’s IKEA vs. MFI, it’s ABBA vs. The Beatles, it’s Meatballs vs. Fish and Chips.”

BBC sport presenter Gary Lineker also referred to IKEA as he analysed Sweden’s 1-0 win over Switzerland earlier this week.

After Sweden wasted a number of first-half opportunities, he joked: “Some shocking Swedish finishing we’ve seen.

“I mean they couldn’t hit an IKEA door with a hammer. I mean, really.”

The joke had pundits Jermaine Jenas, Alex Scott and Phil Neville in fits of laughter.
